Bounds on File Delivery Delay in an Infostations System
نویسندگان
چکیده
The infostations system consists of high speed radios transmitting to very small and discontinuous cells. In this paper we investigate the problem of delivering information in a system where the data rate between the infostations and the fixed network is low compared to the radio rate. This situation is the reverse of the usual wireless network model. We approach this problem assuming that deliveries can be made selectively to infostations along a user path and derive bounds on minimum delivery delay for a variety of infostations geometries. We also provide a near-optimum (minimum delay) algorithm for file delivery.

Infostations: New Perspectives on Wireless Data Networks
We discuss file delivery issues for a new approach to inexpensive, high rate wireless data called Infostations. As opposed to ubiquitous coverage, infostations offer geographically intermittent coverage at high speed (1Mbps to 1Gbps) since data, as compared to voice, can often tolerate significant delay. The infostations paradigm flips the usual “slow-radio/fast-network” scenario upside down an...
متن کاملMine, mine, mine: information theory, infostation networks, and resource sharing
The Infostations wireless data network architecture features discontinuous coverage and ultra-high radio rates for burst transfers of information between base and mobile. It has been shown previously that the infostations architecture can greatly increase the capacity of wireless data systems at the expense of increased delivery delay. In this work we explicitly consider the multiple access iss...
متن کاملEnergy and Delay Optimization for Cache-Enabled Dense Small Cell Networks
Caching popular files in small base stations (SBSs) has been proved to be an effective way to reduce bandwidth pressure on the backhaul links of dense small cell networks (DSCNs). Many existing studies on cache-enabled DSCNs attempt to improve user experience by optimizing end-to-end file delivery delay. However, under practical scenarios where files (e.g., video files) have diverse quality of ...
متن کاملMobile Infostations: a Paradigm for Wireless Data Communications
This paper presents a new wireless system for data communications based on the “many time many where” paradigm and on the waterfilling concept, i.e., to transmit only when source and destination are close together. We associeted the ideas of Infostations with limited coverage at high data rates and mobility to propose a hybrid system with fixed and mobile Infostations. It will increase coverage...
متن کاملInformation Flow in One-Dimensional Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
We consider content distribution in vehicular ad hoc networks. We assume that a file is encoded using fountain code, and the encoded message is cached at infostations. Vehicles are allowed to download data packets from infostations, which are placed along a highway. In addition, two vehicles can exchange packets with each other when they are in proximity. As long as a vehicle has received enoug...
